Update on Fulton County crash

ROYALTON TWP. – Four people were injured, one fatally, Sunday in a two-vehicle accident in Royalton Township.

According to the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Honda CR-V driven by Jerry L. Lauber, 80, of Wauseon was southbound on County Road 10-3 at approximately 4:02 p.m. when it failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by a 1997 Dodge Caravan eastbound on US 20 and driven by Mario Ortega-Dircio, 53, of Alvordton, Ohio.

The passenger in the Honda CR-V, Geraldine M. Lauber, has passed away from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.

Jerry L. Lauber was transported by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where a hospital spokesperson said no condition is listed for Mr. Lauber. Ortega-Dircio and his passenger, Mary M. Sanders, 54, of Alvordton were transported to the Fulton County Health Center, then transferred to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where Sanders is listed in fair condition and there is no record of a patient with Ortega-Dircio’s name.

Safety belts were in use, and alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

The intersection where the accident occurred was closed for approximately one hour. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, the Royalton- Lyons Fire Rescue Department, Life Flight, and ProMedica Air.

The crash remains under investigation.
