Unemployment rate rises in Fulton County

The unemployment rate increased from May to June in Fulton County, according to data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The June rate in Fulton County was 4.6 percent, compared to 3.7 percent in May. Last June, the jobless rate was 4.9 percent in the county.

Among the state’s 88 counties, preliminary June 2018 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 3.3 percent in Mercer County to a high of 7.9 percent in Monroe County. From May, unemployment rates increased in all 88 counties.

The comparable, non-adjusted, unemployment rate for Ohio was 5.3 percent in June.

Five counties had unemployment rates at or below 4.0 percent in June. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Mercer were: Putnam and Wyandot, 3.7 percent; Auglaize, 3.9 percent; and Delaware, 4.0 percent.

Eight counties had unemployment rates at or above 7.0 percent in June. The counties with the highest rates, other than Monroe were: Meigs, 7.8 percent; Athens, 7.6 percent; Adams, 7.5 percent ; Jackson and Scioto, 7.4 percent; Coshocton, 7.2 percent; and Jefferson, 7.0 percent.

Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in June 2018, up from 4.3 percent in May 2018. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 7,900 over the month, from a revised 5,596,800 in May to 5,604,700 in June 2018.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in June was 259,000, up 9,000 from 250,000 in May. The number of unemployed has decreased by 34,000 in the past 12 months from 293,000. The June unemployment rate for Ohio decreased from 5.1 percent in June 2017.

The U.S. unemployment rate for June was 4.0 percent, up from 3.8 percent in May, and down from 4.3 percent in June 2017.
