Archbold Police Chief Joe Wyse remained in critical but stable condition Monday after suffering a stroke Sept. 22.
Village Administrator Dennis Howell said paramedics transported Wyse to the Fulton County Health Center at 11:55 p.m. He was then flown by Life Flight to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, where he is being treated.
Thom Ross has been named interim police chief by Mayor Jim Wyse and Council President Jeff Fryman. His appointment was to be confirmed Monday.
According to a statement released last week by the village, “The Mayor, Council President, and Administrator have full confidence in Interim Chief Ross’s and the entire department’s ability to continue to provide quality law enforcement services during Chief Wyse’s illness.Operations will continue as normal, with IC Ross in charge and manpower requirements filled with overtime and part-time officers. Council President Fryman and IC Ross met with the entire department the afternoon of September 23rd to update them on the situation.
“The Administration and Council extend their concern and prayers to Chief Wyse’s family for a full and speedy recovery. The family requests the prayers of the community but asks for no visitors at this time.”
A neurosurgeon treating Wyse could not offer a long-term prognosis for the chief’s recovery. He confirmed the rarity of an individual of Wyse’s age and physical condition to suffer a stroke.
