NatureFresh to gift local nominees

By David J. Coehrs -

NatureFresh Farms wants to knows its Ohio neighbors better, and in the process give back to the community. So this holiday season the company is gathering local nominees to determine who to gift this Christmas.

A campaign that continues through Dec. 14 will award each of five area individuals or families selected a $500 gift card from a local grocer and a NatureFresh holiday food basket complete with the company’s produce. The campaign, which encompasses a 50-mile radius of Fulton County, will also give each of the persons who nominated a winner a $50 gift card.

“We want to hear those stories of everyone surrounding us,” said Kara Badder, NatureFresh marketing project manager. “The Ohio community seems to be very willing to help out other individuals and get involved.”

The winning individuals or families will have their gift cards and baskets delivered to their doors before Christmas. Badder said the company will share the recipients stories only if they’re willing; otherwise, privacy will be respected.

She said at the onset NatureFresh anticipated a couple of hundred people to be nominated for the gifts, “but I know we’re going to get blown away by that. We realized that the Ohio community has a lot of families in need.”

Within a day of the campaign’s kick-off a week ago, NatureFresh had received 27 nominations. “I pretty much needed a Kleenex box to read these stories,” she said. “We definitely have heard heartbreaking stories. We’ve had a lot of amazing and humbling stories so far.”

Badder said she was surprised by how many people are in need, and heartened by “people who gave someone their last $20 and people who lost their jobs yet are still taking the time to work at homeless shelters and food banks.”

She said the mantra of Peter Quiring, NatureFresh founder and president, is “he doesn’t only want to grow produce but to grow people.”

Badder said she doesn’t know whether NatureFresh will continue an annual holiday giveaway, but said other local campaigns may spring up during the year.

“We’re going to continue that effort of getting involved in the community,” she said.
