This year’s Christmas in Swanton festivities will be held on Saturday.
The 2017 parade theme is Christmas Around the World, thanks to eighth grade student Riley Bellner. A contest was held at Swanton Middle School this year to help determine the theme, and the planning committee selected Riley’s submission. Bellner, the daughter of Jeremy and Heidi Bellner, was awarded a $20 gift card donated by Swanton Sports Center for her creative efforts.
The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will feature marching bands, floats, horses, and of course, Santa Claus. The parade route has been slightly altered due school renovations. The parade will start at Swanton Middle School (formerly Park School) and head east to Main Street, where it will head north, then turn east on Church Street and, after going north on Crestwood Drive, will end at Swanton Elementary School (formerly Crestwood Elementary).
The Swanton Welding Family will lead the Christmas in Swanton parade.
“We wanted to honor the Zeiter Family for the many generous contributions they have made to the Swanton community over the years, particularly The Christmas in Swanton event,” said Mike Rochelle, Christmas in Swanton chairperson. “When I contacted Norm, he agreed to accept the honor of grand marshal as long as we’d name the whole Swanton Welding family as such.”
The craft show and sale at Swanton High School will begin at 10 a.m., and will be open until 4 p.m. Crafters from all over the region will be selling creative and unique holiday gifts.
Santa will be available to listen to holiday wishes in the high school auditorium from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and again from 2-3:30 p.m. Santa’s visit is hosted by the Swanton Fire Department.
The Friends of the Swanton Public Library is bringing in the Storytellers to perform in the auditorium at 1 p.m.
Many other activities will be going on at the high school throughout the day, including children’s crafts, Happy the Clown, wagon rides, and a model train display by Swanton Model Train Club.
This free, family-fun event is made possible by generous contributions from numerous businesses, organizations, and individuals in the Swanton community.
