A commercial vehicle crashed and caught fire in Swancreek Township on Friday, and authorities are looking for the driver.
The Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a 2000 Kenworth semi tractor was traveling west on U.S. 20A near County Road 5-2 at approximately 1:59 a.m. when the driver lost control and the vehicle struck the cement median barrier. The truck continued down the road, where it eventually stopped, and at which time the trailer caught fire.
The driver fled the scene and hasn’t been located.
The fire was extinguished by the Delta and Swanton fire departments, but the vehicle’s punctured gas tank spilled about 40 gallons of diesel fuel. The Environmental Protection Agency was contacted, and arrived at the scene for clean-up.
At last report, U.S. 20A was closed due to the crash.
Troopers were also assisted on scene by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Delta Police Department.
Anyone with information about the crash or the driver’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Bowling Green Patrol Post Dispatch Center at 419-865-5544.
