With a strong showing in the doubles competition, Archbold girls tennis overcame a pair of wins for Wauseon in singles, defeating the Indians 3-2 on their home court Monday afternoon.
Although it took three sets in each match, Wauseon was victorious in first and second singles.
Maddy Wendt bested Archbold’s Belle Clark 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in first singles, while Madi Rice defeated Callie Rohrs 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in second singles.
Archbold got their first win as Maggie Henry took down Sierra Rupp 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker), 6-1 in third singles.
The Blue Streaks won in resounding fashion in the two doubles matches.
Amanda Payne and Melayna Stuckey defeated Wauseon’s Paige Moden and Sophia Stockham 6-1, 6-0 in first doubles. In second doubles, Elizabeth Mignin and Leah Miller bested Kate McKean and Julie Waldron 6-3, 6-0.
Wauseon was also at home on Tuesday where they bested Ayersville 4-1.
Stockham won in second singles 7-5, 6-3. Wendt and Rice were paired together in first doubles as they came away with a 7-5, 6-2 win.
In second doubles, the duo of Waldron and Rupp were victorious 6-2, 6-0.
Archbold is at Maumee Valley Country Day for a match Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Wauseon hosts Toledo Start Thursday and Napoleon on Saturday.
