Swanton scored three second quarter touchdowns to break open a tight game, thwarting an Evergreen comeback attempt for a 43-22 NWOAL victory over Evergreen Friday night.
The win put Swanton at 3-2 on the season while the Vikings fell to 2-3.
Dylan Gilsdorf’s quarterback sneak three minutes into the game put Swanton up 7-0, then when the Vikings pushed into Swanton territory the next two possessions, the Bulldogs’ defense held up in keeping Evergreen out of the end zone.
Then in the second quarter, Michael Lawniczak had scoring runs of 43 and 15, and Zack Leahey punched one in from the three around Jack Etue’s 59-yard run to boost the Bulldogs on top 29-8 at the half.
Hunter Van Wert capped a long 80 yard Evergreen drive with an 11-yard touchdown run late in the third to get the Vikings within two scores, but again the Bulldog defense stiffened after Evergreen grabbed possession with a chance to make it a one-score game.
Lawniczak and Van Wert traded fourth quarter scores to keep the Bulldog lead at 14, then Leahey knocked one in from the four late in the game to cap the victory.
Swanton now plays Patrick Henry this week, while Evergreen goes on the road to Delta.
