SARAJEVO, BOSNIA-HERZOGOVINA – Wauseon junior wrestler McKayla Campbell, in one of her first international wrestling experiences, took fifth place in the 43 kilograms (94.75 pounds) weight class at the Cadet Women’s World Championships held last week in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzogovina.

Her performance helped the United States finish third in the tournament to first place Japan and second place Russia.

In Campbell’s first match she defeated Mariana Dragutan of Moldova with a pin. She then lost by a 12-2 technical fall to the eventual champion of her division, Japan’s Yubeka Tanabe.

Campbell followed that up with a pin of Hungary’s Nikoleta Molnar in just 1:50. However, she fell in her final match to Stefania Priceputu of Romania. That match was also a 12-2 technical fall defeat.
