Wauseon boys soccer blanked by Bryan

Wauseon fell to 0-2 on the boys soccer season with a 4-0 home loss to Bryan in NWOAL play Tuesday.

The Golden Bears were powered by a hat trick from Tyler Manon.

There weren’t many attempts by either team in the first 10 minutes, and outside of the last 11 minutes, scoring was at a premium in the first half.

At the 22-minute mark, Bryan’s Evan Smith got behind the defense and put a shot on net that was saved by Wauseon goalkeeper Easton Delgado.

Smith had another quality attempt not even three minutes later, but Delgado again made a good save. Smith finally cashed in with 11:39 remaining in the first half, weaving past a defender and firing a shot into the back of the net from about 15 yards out.

Wauseon’s Chase Soltis centered a ball for himself the next time down field for the Indians, however, Bryan keeper Reese Jackson was there for the save.

Manon got his first of three goals with 5:33 to go on a shot from the left side, making it 2-0 Golden Bears. They made it 3-0 when Delgado came too far out of position, leaving an open goal for Manon who cashed in.

The Indians had Jackson out of position 4:06 into half number two, but a Bryan defender gave up his body to stop Jakob Pahl’s shot.

“Our midfield play is ok. Better than last season,” said Wauseon coach Shawn Kaufmann of his team’s offensive struggles. “We’re possessing well enough to get the ball forward and into the football third. Finding the ball of the net and play in the final third itself is lacking for sure. Something I’d seen before the season started and we’re still working at it.”

Jameson Gray of Wauseon was awarded a direct free kick from near midfield with 29 minutes left and he put it on target. However, Jackson went up and grabbed it to keep the Indians off the board.

Manon wrapped up the scoring with the help of a centering pass from Mason Frazer at the 17:20 mark.

Wauseon also drops to 0-1 in the league with the loss. They are now off until Monday when they host Waite at 5:30 p.m.
