With a wealth of returning experience the Archbold golf team looks primed for success in 2017. Five letter winners return for the Streaks, who placed 11th at the state meet last season.
Senior Brandon Miller leads the returnees after placing second last season in the NWOAL player of the year race. Senior Trevor Rupp is also back, after placing fourth.
Sophomore Kade Kern finished last season strong, earning medalist honors at the league meet won by Archbold. Also returning are juniors Mitch Grosjean and Kreighton Sims.
“With so many returning letter winners we should be able to draw from a good amount of tournament experience,” said sixth year coach Mike Rosebrook. “This group of students are all very dedicated as well as the hardest working group since I started coaching.”
A promising newcomer to the team is junior A.J. Mahnke.
The coach said they are going to work on course management this season.
“These guys all hit it so far off the tee it actually costs us some unnecessary penalty strokes,” Rosebrook said. “They just want to go for everything, but they have so many other skills they don’t need to.”
Rosebrook expected the team to come out of the gate a little better this year and he was right. Archbold has won the first two tournaments of the season.
“Most of the team played summer tournaments,” he said. “Add two more months of practice to that and we should have the game for October golf again.”
Rosebrook sees Bryan as a potential challenger in the league race.
