The Archbold girls soccer team returns five all-league performers off last year’s team that went 11-5-2 and finished 3-2 in the NWOAL, and they hope that will help improve their league standing. Last season the Blue Streaks placed third in the league.
“We are looking to improve on a short but strong tournament run from last year. We have added some additional quality opponents and I think we should be a contender for the league this year,” said head coach James Kidder on the outlook for his team.
Returning for the Streaks are Emie Peterson, Kamryn Hostetler and Brooke Kohler who were each first team All-NWOAL in 2016. They also have Chloe Nofziger and Andi Peterson who were second team all-league.
Additionally, Emie Peterson was first team all-district a year ago while Kohler made second team all-district. Hostetler and Andi Peterson were both honorable mention all-district.
They will have to replace departed letter winners Emily Roth and Lexa Richardson who were honorable mention all-league, as well as McKenna Lantz and Marissa Fryman.
“Looking at lots of experience returning in key positions this fall, but we also have some great new talent joining our team this year,” said Kidder on his team’s strengths. “The incoming freshmen have played lots of soccer prior to getting to high school. That high level game experience will be a big plus to our program.”
While they have their sights set on a league title, the Streaks know it will be tough.
“The NWOAL is always strong on the girls side in soccer,” explained Kidder. “There isn’t a team that can be written off and every game will be a battle from beginning to end.”
Archbold begins the season Saturday, Aug. 19 on the road at Kalida beginning at 6 p.m.
