The annual Bowling Green – Otsego High School Soccer Invitational took place this weekend. Swanton had two girls teams and one boys team taking part in the action.
Their varsity girls team went 5-1 over the course of the tournament, making it all the way to the championship game where they fell to Midview I 4-1.
The Bulldogs opened with a 3-1 win against Brookside. They followed that up with a 5-0 shutout of Miami East II, then a 4-0 blanking of Kalida.
Prior to falling against Midview, Swanton defeated Van Buren 6-0 and Genoa 4-0.
The Bulldogs’ second girls team went 0-3 in group play. They dropped games to Delta, Miami East I and Eastwood.
In the second round in Division IV, Swanton fell to Miami East II 1-0, beat Otsego 1-0, then fell to Miami East II 2-0.
In group play, Delta edged Swanton II 2-1, but then lost to Eastwood 1-0 and Miami East I 2-0. In round two in Division III, they beat Firelands 2-1, fell to Riverdale 2-0 then tied Brookside 1-1.
The Evergreen girls went 0-3 in group play. They fell to Springfield 5-0, Loudonville 5-2, and Rossford 3-2. In the second round in Division IV, they fell to Defiance 5-0 and Maumee 4-0, before topping Otsego 1-0.
In the boys competition, the team from Swanton finished 2-1 in group play. They opened with a narrow 2-1 loss to Brookside, but bounced back with a 7-2 win over Genoa II and a 2-1 victory against Defiance.
In Division II in the second round, Swanton downed Rossford 4-0 before falling to Liberty Center I 3-1. They then faced Rossford again, winning 3-1.
