Archbold fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but in no time they answered back, recording a pair of seven-run innings in a 19-2 victory over Tinora in five innings in the opening round of the District 2 ACME North Sectional Thursday at Archbold.
Tinora scored a run in both the first and second innings to grab the early lead.
In the top of the first, Spencer Giesige’s sacrifice fly brought home Clay Fogt to make it 1-0. Fogt also had something to do with the Ram run in the second, as his double scored Alex Henry for a 2-0 advantage.
The Streaks responded in the next half inning as Kade Kern reached on a Tinora drop in the outfield, then he was thrown out when Hayden Galvan hit into a fielder’s choice. A Cory Erbskorn double put runners on second and third.
Brandon Miller’s ground ball out was hit into the right spot to score Galvan, while an errant throw to third allowed Erbskorn to score which knotted the game at 2-2. The next six base runners for the Streaks reached safely, and Nic Rodriguez, Jeron Williams, Bryce Williams, and Kade Kern all had run-producing hits. A throwing error scored another run, giving Archbold a 7-2 lead through two.
Two hit by pitches aided the Streaks in the bottom of the third. Erbskorn led off the frame being struck by a pitch, then after a lineout, he scored on a Ramos triple.
Rodriguez was next to be hit by a pitch, then he attempted to steal second which caused a rundown. However, with Ramos looking to come home from third, the Tinora infield missed the tag on Rodriguez and then fired to the plate but the throw was not in time.
RBI hits from Jeron Williams and Bryce Williams extended the lead to 11-2, and later Erbskorn came through with a three-run double, putting the score at 14-2.
Archbold added five runs on two hits in the home half of the fourth to reach the final tally.
Ramos, after giving up runs in both the first and second, settled in and got the win on the mound. He allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts in five innings.
Leading Archbold on offense was Erbskorn who went 2 for 3 and had three RBIs. Jeron Williams (2 for 3) and Bryce Williams (2 for 4) each drove in two for the Streaks.
Archbold will host the winner of Ayersville and Patrick Henry tomorrow at 11 a.m. for the sectional title. The Pilots and Patriots do battle this evening at 6 p.m.
