The weather has had little impact on the summer ACME baseball season until Tuesday evening. For Delta and Wauseon’s game at the Panthers’ Jim Harmon Field, they made it through 4 1/2 innings before the rain poured down and play was stopped with the score knotted at 1-1.
Delta would get on the board first in the bottom of the fourth as Jacob Schneider reached on a one-out single. He would later steal second and move to third on a passed ball, and after a walk issued to Robby Arredondo, he scored on Travis Dunning’s ground out to make it 1-0.
However, Wauseon wasted no time in responding, scoring the tying run in the next half inning.
An Eric Parker leadoff walk kick-started the offense, then after a strikeout, Trent Armstrong moved him into scoring position via the sacrifice bunt. Carter Stump brought Parker home with an RBI single to tie the game.
Delta’s Tristan Saeger worked a walk to begin the bottom of the inning, but then the rain and lightning kicked up halting play.
Before the rain, Wauseon had other opportunities to score but were shutdown by Dunning, the Panther starting pitcher.
In their half of the second, Xavier Torres belted a leadoff single, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out. Dunning then got Joe Shema down on strikes, but Cody Figy walked and stole second putting a pair of runners in scoring position. But, the Delta hurler got out of hit when he drew a fly out off the bat of Parker.
In the top of the third for the Indians, Levi Krasula reached on an infield single to begin the frame. Armstrong then flew out to left, and Stump reached after being hit by a pitch.
After another fly out both runners would move up on a wild pitch. However, Dunning struck out CJ Moser to end the threat.
Like Dunning, Parker allowed just one run as both pitchers were still in the game when it was stopped. At this time, there are no plans to finish this game.
Both teams are on the road Thursday as Wauseon travels to Napoleon and Delta is at Liberty Center. Those contests are each slated to begin at 6 p.m.
