Delta went through four Pettisville pitchers, scoring runs in every inning while on their way to a 11-1 home victory in five innings in ACME baseball action Thursday.
The visiting Blackbirds tried to dent the scoreboard first when Austin Horning drew a two-out walk in the top of the first. However, he was gunned down at second in an attempt to steal which ended the scoring threat.
In the bottom half of the inning, Gabe Freeman walked and Darren Dunning was hit by a pitch to lead it off for the Panthers. Delta’s first run came on a wild pitch which plated Freeman. Jason Beverly then walked putting runners on the corners, and Robby Arredondo followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
A leadoff walk by Hunter Hamilton of Delta in the bottom of the second came back to hurt the Blackbirds as two groundball outs and a wild pitch scored him, pushing the Pettisville deficit to three runs.
The Panthers scored three more in the third with the big knock being a two-run single off the bat of Cole Mattin.
They also got three in the fourth on three hits. Tristan Saeger led it off by being hit by a pitch, he stole second, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.
A Kayden Kurth base on balls brought the first Pettisville pitching change as Jake King relieved Justin Rupp. Beverly and Arredondo then followed with RBI singles to make it 9-0.
After a Mattin single and a pop out, the Birds made another change, bringing in Nate Kime for King. He would limit the damage in the fourth.
Pettisville got an infield single from Kime, and walks by King and Aaron Rupp to load the bases around two outs in the next half inning. They finally cashed in thanks to a Justin Rupp single that plated Kime.
However, Delta ended it with back-to-back bases loaded walks by Arredondo and Mattin in the bottom of the frame.
Beverly led the Panther offense as he went 2 for 2 with a pair of walks and an RBI. Logan Rufenacht, Kime, and Justin Rupp had the lone hits for Pettisville.
Travis Dunning went four strong innings for Delta to get the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out nine Blackbird hitters. Justin Rupp took the loss.
Delta is back in action Tuesday when they host Wauseon at 6 p.m. Pettisville is on the road at Liberty Center, also at 6 p.m.
