Archbold exploded for nine runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth inning to shut out Wauseon 13-0 in five innings of ACME baseball Tuesday.
Wauseon made a pitching change to start the inning, and the Blue Streaks took advantage against Zach Stipp.
Nic Rodriguez singled to lead it off, Jeron Williams followed with a base hit, and Bryce Williams’ infield single scored Rodriguez to extend the lead to 5-0.
Gabe Petersen then walked to load the bases, and Kade Kern singled to bring in another run. Holden Galvan followed with a two-run single to make it 8-0, then a Rigo Ramos ground out made it 9-0. After a walk, pinch-hitter Bryson Taylor singled home Galvan, pushing the advantage to 10-0.
Two more runs scored via a wild pitch during Trevor Rupp’s at bat. Then, later in the frame, Petersen’s run-scoring single completed the scoring.
Stipp drew a one-out walk for the Indians in the home half of the frame, but he was later caught trying to steal and an Eric Parker ground out ended the inning and the game.
Archbold struck first in the top of the second that began with a leadoff double from Kern. He came home as Galvan got a single to make it 1-0.
Galvan stole second and advanced to third on a ground out, then a ground out off the bat of Cory Erbskorn scored Galvan and made it a two-run cushion. Erbskorn later came through with a two-run single with the bases loaded in the fourth that increased the Blue Streak lead to 4-0.
Wauseon’s best opportunity came in the bottom of the first when Trent Armstrong and Brooks Gype each singled around a strikeout of Carter Stump. However Ramos, Archbold’s starting pitcher, got CJ Moser down on strikes and Xavier Torres flew out to left to end the threat.
The Indians also stranded a two-out double by Moser in the fourth.
Ramos earned the win on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five. He pitched all five innings.
Gype took the loss for the Indians, going four innings and allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Archbold hosts Liberty Center Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before competing in the Marysville Tournament Friday and Saturday. Wauseon visits Delta next Tuesday for a contest starting at 6 p.m.
