PIQUA – The Division II Piqua Regional Track and Field Meet wrapped up on Saturday with the remaining field events and the finals of the running events.
In the final team standings, the Wauseon boys would tie with Van Wert for 16 place, each notching 16 points. Swanton’s boys came in a four-way tie for 19th with 12.
The Wauseon girls tied for 28th place with 6 points.
Locally, Gunnar Oakes of Swanton was the only athlete to advance to state as he placed third in the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 3 inches. It will be the third straight year he competes at the state meet.
While the Wauseon boys qualified their 4×800 relay team on the first day of the meet, they did not have that same luck Saturday.
In the 3200, Wauseon’s Kyle Vernot just missed advancing as he took sixth with a time of 10:15.13. Teammate Joshua Lowry came in two spots behind him at eighth (10:18.67).
Aaron Beck of Wauseon placed seventh in the 1600 with a time of 4:37.47.
Swanton’s Tanner Prentice placed seventh in the 400 (51.57), while Anthony Howard took 13th in the 800 (2:01.25).
Performing for the Wauseon girls was Aliza Dauterman who notched a fifth place finish in the discus (115-6), but did not advance. Halen Mealer closed out her career with a seventh place finish in the 300 hurdles (49.41).
The OHSAA State Track and Field Meet will be this Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of the Ohio State University. Action in Division II begins Friday with field events that include the girls discus, girls high jump, boys long jump, boys shot put and boys pole vault.
