Archbold doubles team heads to state

The Archbold boys tennis doubles team of senior Jereme Rupp and junior Luke McQuade will compete in the OHSAA State Tennis Tournament which begins Friday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

They advanced to the Division II state doubles tournament after finishing runner-up at the district meet last week in Bowling Green.

In the district tournament, Rupp and McQuade opened with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Oak Harbor’s Bo Hermes and Holden Pelz. They followed that up with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win against Mike Sazdanoff and Benton Drake of Lexington.

In the district semifinal contest, the Blue Streak duo defeated Andrew Herner and Jacob Coe of Norwalk, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5.

However, Rupp and McQuade ran into a skilled pair from Lima Shawnee in the district championship. Michael Rutter and Isaac Hanover of Shawnee won the title by a final of 6-0, 6-1.

Archbold’s first matchup in the state doubles tournament will be against freshman Avery Clouse and junior Jonathan Reisinger of Logan Elm.
