Luck was not on Wauseon’s side Friday in the sectional final. Bowling Green would make numerous defensive gems to best the Indians in Division II softball action, 1-0.

Their best chance to score was probably the bottom of the first when they put runners on first and second with just one out.

Christina Norman kick-started the Indian offense with an infield single that was helped out when no one covered the bag for the Bobcat offense. She would get to second on a pitch in the dirt, then Ally Tefft drilled a base hit to left which put runners on the corners.

However, Bowling Green hurler Andrea Cromley struck out the next batter looking and got Maddy Martinez to pop up to end the threat.

The Bobcats dented the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Cheyenne Child got them going with a one-out walk, then Sofia Calderon hammered a double into the left field corner plating Child for the 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green’s defense flashed its leather in the next half inning, beginning with their centerfielder who made a diving play to stop a hard hit ball off the bat of Kyrin Grime. Alisa Shelt got out on a soft liner, while Norman lined out on a rope to left for a 1-2-3 inning.

The Indians had another chance in the fifth when Harlee Floss led off the frame with a walk. However, Juli Spadafore lined out on another hard hit ball, leading to Floss being doubled off. Cromley then got Grime to line out ending the inning.

Wauseon made two quick outs in the sixth, but then Tefft doubled to right. However, she tried pushing a double into a triple and was out easily at third. The Indians went down in order in the seventh on three balls that were put in play but right at Bobcat defenders.

Leading Bowling Green was Calderon who went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. Tefft collected a pair of hits for the Indians while Norman finished 1 for 3.

Cromley got the win in the circle for the Bobcats, giving up no runs on three hits with one strikeout and one base on balls. Shelt took the loss for the Indians, despite allowing just one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
