Wauseon boys soccer had a productive season in their first year under coach Shawn Kaufmann. While they may not have posted the record they would have liked in finishing 6-10-2, they were in most of their games.
The Indians advanced to the sectional championship after beating Toledo Central Catholic 1-0, but fell to Oak Harbor in the title game by a final of 3-1.
Gone from that team are Jesse Sanders (first team All-NWOAL, honorable mention all-district), Andrew Kohls (honorable mention All-NWOAL), Grant Sanders (second team All-NWOAL, honorable mention all-district), Leo Rendon (first team All-NWOAL, second team all-district), Dylan Nicely and Austin Brown.
However, returning letter winners for the Indians are Riley Oyer, Luke McCaughey, Brady Kinnersley (honorable mention All-NWOAL), Jacob Seiler, Orlando Uribes (second team All-NWOAL, honorable mention all-district), Brady Neifer, Hunter Thourot and Aaron Spieles (honorable mention All-NWOAL).
The Indians return starters in their midfield, which is a strength of the team says Kaufmann. He also says that his team should be more balanced than it was a year ago, and that they hope to get contributions from all players.
A flaw for the Indians is that they have a small roster, so any injuries can be costly.
But they do add depth with newcomers Canidate Vickery, Levi Whitman and Isaac Thourot.
Wauseon’s season got started on Saturday as they fell at Continental by a score of 1-0. The Indians are at Ottawa-Glandorf tomorrow beginning at 7 p.m.
