Although they lose last year’s Buckeye Border Conference player of the year Dana Fricke, Pettisville volleyball returns four all-conference performers to help them this season.
The Blackbirds will look to build off last year’s campaign, where they finished 21-5 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the BBC.
“We want to improve every day and take the season one match at a time,” said Pettisville coach John Horning on his outlook for the season. “I see us being competitive in all of our matches this season. The girls have worked very hard so far and we hope to be playing our best ball at the end of the season.”
Outside of Fricke, the Birds also lost Jordyn Pursel (first team All-BBC, second team All-District VII) to graduation.
Returning for Pettisville are Stephanie Hubby (first team All-BBC), Kate Kauffman (second team All-BBC), Amber Klopfenstein (honorable mention All-BBC), Teagan Kauffman (honorable mention All-BBC), Claire Foor and Carly Bontrager.
Horning notes the Birds’ strengths being that they are hard working, have a good team attitude, and their serving is on point.
Their main weakness is that they have players in new positions playing on the varsity squad.
As for the BBC, the Birds hope to continue their dominance as they are a perfect 20-0 in conference play over the past two seasons.
“I see us being competitive in all of our league matches this season,” said Horning of the BBC. “I believe our league should be very competitive this season.”
Pettisville hosts Evergreen in the season opener on Monday.
