The Wauseon boys tennis team returns many key pieces for the 2017 season off a 2016 campaign in which they finished 17-4 overall and won the Northern Buckeye Tennis League title.

“We look forward to getting better every day, being prepared for each practice and match and competing hard,” said head coach Stan Schmidt.

The Indians’ keys to success according to Schmidt include playing as a team and mentoring new athletes in the program.

Returning letter winners for the Indians are Aaron Spieles, Conner Hicks, Evan Kost, Tristan Uribes, James Allen and Brady Blaylock. They also add newcomers Zachary Van Hoy, Chaise Soltis, Brandon Krutz and Darion Ward.

The NBTL is always competitive and Schmidt expects that to be the case this season.

He notes that Archbold finished second in the league and returns their entire team. Ada had a state singles qualifier in 2016.

Bryan, despite having a new coach, is always tough, said Schmidt.

“We think we will be able to compete for the championship,” he concluded on the league.
