Wauseon girls qualify for district bowling tournament

Wauseon’s Mackayla Kearney bowls at the Northwest Ohio Athletic League tournament Feb. 11. The Wauseon girls bowling team qualified for the district tournament after placing third at the sectional over the weekend.

NAPOLEON – The Division II sectional bowling tournament was held Friday and Saturday at River City Bowl-A-Way in Napoleon. Locally, the Wauseon girls team will move on to the district after finishing third as a team, while Nic Kearney of Wauseon placed third individually with a 613 total to qualify in the boys competition.

Nic Kearney notched a 202 in his first game, a 188 in game two, and 223 in game three.

Next for the Indians was Quincy Rohda with a 455 total, Colin Ashbaugh at 450, and Brady Blaylock 437. The Wauseon boys were ninth as a team with 2,370.

Evergreen was the highest scoring boys team in the county as they finished eighth with a score of 2,333. They were led by CJ Langenderfer who placed 17th with a 518 total.

Teammate Nick Hudik was behind Langenderfer with a 508 total, John Silvestri finished with a 449, and Evan Conrad 439.

The Swanton boys finished 11th with a 2,227 team total. Leading the Bulldogs was Fred Blankenship who came in at 23rd overall with a 496 total.

Jeremy Zalecki was next with a 459, Skyler Ulch 449 and David Patch 446.

Delta’s boys notched a 2,133 team total for 13th place. Will McQueen was at the forefront for the Panthers with a 479 total.

Dylan Swicegood was next with a 460, Jacob Buchhop 436 and Brett Reeves 257.

The Bryan boys were sectional champions 2,836 team total.

On the girls side, Wauseon placed third behind Bryan and Liberty Center with a 2,213 team total.

Mackayla Kearney took fourth for the Indians with a 546 total. She rolled a 154 in game one, a 194 in game two, and a 198 in game three.

Next for Wauseon was Jenna Simon who placed 11th with a 469, Payton Lovins with a 391, and Kama Brackman at 279.

The Evergreen girls finished seventh with a 1,769 team total. They were led by Hanna Miller who recorded a 438 total.

Courtney Wilson was next with a 383, Breeanna Riegsecker 344 and Hannah Abrams 321.

Delta finished ninth with a 1,778 team total. Alli Hite placed 16th for the Panthers with a 454 total.

Next was Echo Sniegowski with a 262, Alexa Tenney with a 232 and Destiny Hildreth 225.

Swanton placed 10th with a 1,703 team total. They were led by Lauren Smith who placed 20th with a 428 total.

Hayley McMahan was next for the Bulldogs with a 386, Rachel Jordan notched a 360, and Deanna Eisel 254.

The boys district tournament is Thursday at Interstate Lanes in Rossford beginning at 5 p.m. The girls competition is Friday at Interstate Lanes, also starting at 5 p.m.
