The Delta Panther golf team finished ninth in the NWOAL standings a season ago, but that does not deter them from being positive about the 2015 campaign.
“I believe we will be much improved from last year where we finished ninth in the league standings,” said second-year coach Jon Mignin. “Though we may struggle early in the season, I am excited to see where we end.”
The Panthers have three returning letter winners in senior Michael Thomas, junior Drew Mattin and sophomore Jay Vann. They will be the backbone of the Panther lineup.
“The biggest strength that I have recognized so far is the extreme passion that these athletes have for golf. These athletes want to learn and strive to get better each and every day,” explained Mignin. “They are very coachable. The upperclassmen have been great leaders in helping with the younger golfers.”
Delta also adds seven newcomers to the roster, however, four of them are freshmen. New to the sqaud are Tim Sonick, Chase Sandusky, Tyler Roark, Brady Wymer, William McQueen, Cole Mattin and Ashton O’Brien.
“We have several golfers that have very little experience golfing, but they are great athletes,” said Mignin. “Several of the gentlemen play basketball, wrestle, and (play) baseball.”
Mignin also said that outside of Thomas, Drew Mattin and Vann, the Panthers will have to find a few more golfers to help them “score on a consistent basis.”
Look for Delta to finish near the middle of the pack in the NWOAL, says the coach.
