Archbold built up a 39-22 halftime advantage while on their way to a 74-39 rout on the road at Wauseon in non-league girls basketball Friday.
The Blue Streaks increased their lead to 10 points in the first quarter after Brooke Kohler’s score on a drive to the hoop and Emie Peterson’s two free throws made it 17-7 at the 2:02 mark.
Wauseon’s Ally Tefft then split a pair of free throws, Kohler responded with a jump shot and also split a pair from foul line around Brianna Castellano’s three for the Indians which made it 20-11 at the quarter break.
Archbold would go up by 15 in the second quarter after 3 of 4 from the charity stripe by Kohler made it 29-14 with 5:28 left.
Castellano got the Indians back on the board with a bucket, then Wauseon’s Karli Penrod drilled two free throws, Kierstyn Repp scored down low for the Streaks and Castellano hit a pair from the line to get Wauseon within 11 with 3:59 left in the half.
However, a bucket for Alyssa Ziegler and Repp’s steal and score made it 35-20, and after Penrod’s layup, Ziegler scored on a curl to the hoop and Blair Bucklew’s hoop gave Archbold a 17 point cushion at the break.
The margin hung around 20 points in the third quarter until a three-point play by Archbold’s Lily Krieger and another bucket from her made it 53-29 at the 2:22 mark. Repp and Krieger kept the run going with two more points each, and although Penrod got a pair of buckets for Wauseon down the stretch, the Streaks bumped their lead to 62-33 after three.
Penrod for Wauseon and Kohler of Archbold each had 16 points to lead all scorers. Repp added 14 for the Streaks, while Ziegler and Krieger each chipped in with 11.
The Blue Streak defense limited the Indians to 26 percent shooting (12 for 46) from the field.
Archbold (3-0) is on the road at Fairview tomorrow while Wauseon (0-3) hosts Ottawa-Glandorf.
