Swanton tuned up for the OHSAA playoffs by beating up on Delta 42-7 to end the regular season with a 9-1 record.
The Bulldogs open the Division V, Region 18 playoffs when they travel to West Salem Northwestern Saturday at 7 p.m. Swanton is the fifth seed taking on the fourth seed.
Against Delta, Swanton cashed in on their second drive of the game when after taking over after a stuffed fake punt at the Delta 46, it took the Bulldogs just four plays when Gunnar Oakes made a terrific NFL catch on an up-for-grabs pass from Marek Spiess from 33 yards out to put the Dogs up 7-0 with 3:55 left in the first.
After Delta went three-and-out on the next possession, Swanton recovered a bad snap on a punt at the Delta 1, where Michael Lawniczak tallied the second Bulldog touchdown of the night two plays later making it 14-0.
On the next Swanton possession, Tim Rankin’s weaving 16 yard run was the big play setting up Lawniczak’s second score of the night from five yards out, making it 21-0 a minute into the second quarter.
Beverly gave Delta their only score of the night when after the Panthers took over at their own 36 after the kickoff, he ran for 29 yards, then the final 35 to put Delta on the board.
Swanton got one more score before the end of the first half when Brennan Spiess snared a slant across the middle and split the Delta secondary for an 89 yard score to put the score at 28-7 at the half.
Oakes grabbed a five yard touchdown pass on the first series of the second half and Chase Avalos scored from four yards away later in the fourth to cap the Bulldogs scoring.
Marek Spiess was 6 for 14 with three scores, a pick, and 129 yards in the air.
Lawniczak picked up 123 yards on 18 carries to lead Swnaton rushers.
Beverly led the Panthers with 141 yards on the ground in 21 carries.
