Campbell excels with USA Wrestling

McKayla Campbell of Wauseon continues to show off her skills for USA Wrestling. She recently won a pair of events in Fargo, North Dakota on July 18.

In the ASICS/Vaughan Junior Women’s Freestyle championship, Campbell was victorious at 97 pounds. She won all of her matches by technical fall, only having one last longer than 41 seconds. Campbell defeated Pennsylvania’s Vayle Rae Baker, 10-0, to capture the title.

The Cadet championship went well for Campbell as she won all of her matches by tech fall in under 32 seconds. Competing at 95 pounds, she was victorious over Angelina Gomez of Texas to win the title.

Campbell then wrestled in a duels tournament with the Ohio and Indiana combined team. She won a total of five matches. One victory was by forfeit, one by tech fall and three pins.

Campbell was also named to the First Team Girls High School All-American wrestling team. Awards were given out at the tournament in Fargo.
