The Archbold volleyball team returns six letter winners, four of which are seniors, that are looking to get the program back to its winning ways.
Last season, the Blue Streaks finished 4-4 in the NWOAL, making the back-to-back titles they won in 2011 and 2012 seem like a distant memory. However, the vibe surrounding this year’s team is much more positive.
“Our girls have given a lot of dedication and hard work over the summer,” said second-year coach Jill Holdgreve. “It has been great watching them come together and succeed. They have a great outlook on what they expect of themselves and each other to make this a successful season. With a great returning group, we look to continue to build on our experience from last year to make this year even better.”
Notable returnees for the Streaks are Alyssa Ziegler (second team All-NWOAL), Morgan Miller, Peyton Dickman, Julia Lambert, Brooke Aeschliman, and Macey Rupp (honorable mention All-NWOAL).
However, they will have to replace the likes of Brooke Hines (honorable mention all-league), Allie McQuade, Maddy Smith, and Ellie Rupp.
Newcomers to the roster are Malinda Lugbill, Lauren Miller, Taylor Miller, Gabby Nafziger, Blair Bucklew, and Elee Kaymeyer.
Holdgreve said her team has hopes of competing for a league title this season.
“The NWOAL will be very competitive again this year,” she said. “In the NWOAL, no team can be overlooked. We look to be competitive against great teams.”
