Wauseon tennis captures league title

DEFIANCE – Wauseon finished four points ahead of Archbold to claim the Northern Buckeye Tennis League tournament championship on Saturday at Defiance College.

It was Wauseon’s second NBTL tournament victory in the last four years.

The Indians totalled 15 points, Archbold 11, Ada and Bryan each had 6, and Rossford and Ayersville finished with 1.

For Wauseon, Derek Zimmerman defeated an opponent from Bryan 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 in second singles. Also, Evan Kost defeated Archbold’s Josh Kidder 6-4, 6-1 to win the title in third singles.

In first doubles, Wauseon’s Aaron Spieles and Tristan Uribes bested Alex Short and Luke McQuade of Archbold 6-4, 6-0.

However, the Blue Streaks’ second doubles pairing of Michael Short and Lucas Rupp got revenge by defeating Taylor Wilcoxon and James Allen of Wauseon 6-3, 6-1.
