Archbold softball had three multi-run innings as they defeated Evergreen at home, 13-3, in six innings to remain undefeated in the NWOAL Thursday.
After the Vikings had cut the Blue Streak lead to 7-3 midway through the fifth, they responded with a five spot in the bottom half of the inning.
Archbold’s Andi Peterson started the rally with a single to left field, then Madison Kohler hit a ground ball and everyone was safe when the throw to second in an attempt to get Peterson was tardy. Macey Rupp’s bunt single loaded the bases, and after a strikeout, Gabby Nafziger’s single plated Peterson and Kohler to extend their lead to 9-3.
Peyton Dickman followed with a two-run double, and later an infield single from Payton Robinson scored Dickman to make it 12-3 after five.
Evergreen looked to rebound in their half of the sixth as Jamie VanLoocke singled and Rachel Finney was hit by a pitch, putting the first two runners aboard. However Robinson, the Streaks’ pitcher, got a punchout and back-to-back ground outs to avoid any damage.
Archbold then added a run in the bottom of the inning to end the contest via the OHSAA run rule.
Another big inning for the Streaks was the four-run fourth.
With two out and a runner on second, Nafziger reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. Nafziger was caught trying to steal by the Viking pitcher, however, the throw to second missed and went into the outfield as a pair of runs scored to make it 5-0.
Dickman was next as she doubled to left center and advanced to third on a bad pitch during Cassi Wyse’s at bat. Wyse would walk, and Robinson’s two-run single plated her and Dickman to extend it to 7-0.
Evergreen did get on the board in the fifth, beginning with Simon reaching on an error and a double to left from Kelsie Komisarek. Consecutive strikeouts followed, but Eden Eisel came through with a two-run single. She also came around to score on the play as an errant throw to second trimmed the Archbold lead to 7-3.
Evergreen’s Mikayla Ball then doubled up the middle, but Robinson got the next batter to ground out ending the threat.
Nafziger paced the Archbold offense as she went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. Robinson got the win in the circle as she gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out eight batters while walking zero. Evergreen’s Rachael Noe allowed 13 runs on 15 hits, struck out four and walked three.
Archbold was back in action Friday when they traveled to Delta and picked up a 14-0 six-inning win. Kohler led the Blue Streak attack as she knocked in five RBIs. Delta was limited to just two hits.
