Archbold took advantage of some seeing eye hits in the third, then some subpar defensive execution in the fifth to rebound from an early 4-1 deficit to defeat Evergreen, 11-4, Friday afternoon to raise the Streaks’ NWOAL record to 3-1.
Levi Carson’s first inning sacrifice fly put the Vikes on top, only to be countered by Ian Radabaugh’s RBI force out to knot the score after the first frame.
Evergreen picked up a pair of runs in the second with the help of a Streak miscue.
After a walk, Archbold starter Ben Bucklew threw wild on a pickoff attempt, putting a runner in scoring position where Bryce Hudik’s base hit put Evergreen up 2-1.
A passed ball put Hudik at second, and Nick Etue marked him with an RBI-single.
Teagen Pinkelman’s ringing one-out double started a third inning threat, and he came around on John Ruth’s base hit, giving the Vikings a 4-1 lead.
Archbold countered in their half of the inning with three runs to tie things back up at 4-4.
A one out walk, Bryce Williams’ bleeder that fell on the edge of the outfield grass, and an infield single from Radabaugh and Seth Mayer’s pop fly single into no-man’s land brought the Blue Streaks back to even.
Archbold took the lead against Evergreen starter Dave Moore in the fourth on base hits from Trevor Rupp and Toby Walker, then a pair of sharp run scoring singles by Bucklew and Radabaugh to give the Streaks a 6-4 advantage.
The Streaks then got five more in the fifth.
Brandon Miller singled with one out and Cory Erbskorn followed with a double into the right center field gap to put runners at second and third.
Rupp’s squeeze bunt turned into a single when the Vikes botched a pitchout play and then were slow to field the bunt.
Walker followed with a bunt that reliever Phoenix VanOstrand threw away, putting runners at second and third where Williams dropped a base hit into short right center that scored two more before Radabaugh ripped a single for his third hit of the day to cap a five run inning.
Bucklew picked up the win despite giving up five walks to go with five hits. The senior righty struck out seven.
Radabaugh added two RBIs to go with his three hits.
Moore took the loss, allowing 13 hits in four and a third and three walks.
