Birds earn first win

The Pettisville baseball team hosted Fayette Thursday and came away with an 8-2 victory, their first of the season.

Dillon King was 1 for 3 with three RBIs for the Blackbirds, while John Rufenacht went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Drake Bowditch, Joel Smith, Isaiah Garrett, Casen Burkholder and Max Baker had hits for Fayette.

Pettisville’s Christian Barhite struck out 10 batters in getting the win on the mound. Burkholder was tagged with the loss.

The Birds then hosted Hilltop on Friday and were shut out 5-0. They could only manage one hit off Cadet starter Quinn Smith.

Smith got the win with a complete game, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out 11. Pettisville’s Landon Roth took the loss.
