The Wauseon softball team hosted Fairview on Tuesday, defeating the Apaches 9-3.
“All around our girls played very well tonight,” said Indian mentor Shelly Borton on the win. “Our defense was solid most of the evening and made some impressive plays. Our offensive settled in and battled the entire game, giving our defense a lead to work behind.”
Wauseon got on the board in their first at bat when Alisa Shelt and Ally Tefft scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the third, Shelt singled, Tefft was hit by a pitch, and Reagan Spadafore hammered a two-run double that plated Shelt and Tefft to make it 4-1.
They added to their lead in the fourth with five runs. Both Oliviah Banister and Maddy Martinez had hits that scored two runs in the frame.
Fairview added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to equal the final tally.
Banister (1 for 4), Spadafore (2 for 4), and Martinez (1 for 3) each had two RBIs.
Shelt finished 2 for 3 and also added a pair of walks. She also got the win in the circle, striking out six batters to just one walk while allowing seven hits. Logan Smith took the loss for Fairview.
Wauseon next visits Archbold on Thursday at 5 p.m. in NWOAL play.
