The Evergreen softball team has many returning starters back as they hope to improve upon last year’s record of 13-14.
“We are very excited about the season,” said coach Todd Momany, who begins his third season at the helm. “Although we graduated five experienced seniors from last year, we have replaced them with some exceptional athletes. This is one of the hardest working groups that I’ve had the pleasure of coaching, and I expect us to be competitive in every game.”
Outside of experience returning, another strength for the Vikings, according to Momany, is team speed.
Letter winners returning are Becca Jankowiak (honorable mention All-NWOAL), Eden Eisel (second team All-NWOAL), Rachael Noe, Megan Simon, Mikayla Ball, Jamie VanLoocke, Olivia Wysong, and Brittney Werner.
Both Jankowiak and Eisel held a .423 batting average in 2015, while Eisel added 26 stolen bases. Werner hit .324 and knocked in 17 RBIs, Ball had 14 RBIs, Simon hit .307 and scored 17 runs, and hit Noe .261.
Newcomers that have been added to the roster are Lilly Kuszmaul, Rachael Finney, Kelsie Komisarek, and Lauren Overfield.
Momany views Bryan and Archbold as the favorites for the NWOAL crown.
