HOLGATE – Archbold slipped past Holgate 54-51 in girls basketball on Monday to improve to 14-1 on the season.
“We didn’t play our best tonight but Holgate had something to do with that,” said Archbold coach Brian Ziegler. “Good teams find a way to win and we did that tonight. We fought through a tough game against a well-coached team.”
A 19-12 second quarter for the Streaks proved to be the difference. Holgate (6-6) led by one after the opening period and later cut the lead to three heading into the final quarter.
Kierstyn Repp led Archbold with 19 points, while Kamryn Hostetler added 12.
“Kierstyn made some key shots for us late in the game. And Kam did a nice job handling the ball. We need to keep working and continue to improve,” Ziegler said.
Archbold outrebounded Holgate 22-17. The Streaks forced 13 turnovers and committed nine. Both teams struggled from the foul line as Archbold shot 47 percent and Holgate 54 percent.
Holgate won the junior varsity contest 30-24.
Archbold will be in action again today when they travel to Wauseon for a Northwest Ohio Athletic League showdown.
