DEFIANCE – Archbold, Wauseon and Swanton had their wrestling teams compete at the Fricker’s Duals hosted by Archbold and held at Defiance College this past Friday and Saturday.

The Indians finished fourth in the team standings as they went 8-2 in the tournament. Their only losses were to Hartland, Mich. 33-28, who won the tournament by finishing 10-0, and Mechanisburg 47-28.

“Looking at the overall performance, I was happy with the end result considering the teams we wrestled,” said Wauseon coach Mike Ritter. “I had requested a pretty tough schedule over the two day event and we definitely got that. Our goal was to get the best matches we could.

“I thought we started the tournament kind of slow, but progressively got better as the dual meets went on. At the end of the second day, we were pretty fatigued and let a match kind of get away from us. We got off to a great start on the first day, going 5-0, and carried that over into the first two matches of day two.”

Highlighting Wauseon’s run were Tre Campbell (182 pounds) and Tony Banister (195/220) who both finished 10-0. Gavin Ritter (106), Alex Slattman (113) and Hunter Yackee (132) each were 9-1 for the tournament.

Archbold finished 5-5 with wins over Edison 36-33, Waite 66-12, Ayersville 51-18, Bryan 54-18 and Gahanna Lincoln 37-36.

Swanton went 4-6, getting wins against Tinora 40-39, Waite 77-6, Gahanna Lincoln 42-36 and Defiance 42-31.
