HUDSON, Mich. – A bevy of local cross country teams took to the course at the Hudson Invitational Saturday morning.
In the large school division, the Wauseon boys took first with 98 points. They were led by Kyle Vernot who placed first overall (16:30.33), Josh Lowry who notched a fourth place finish (16:56.34), Michael Cheezan who took fifth (17:19.68) and Braden Vernot 19th (18:04.17).
At the forefront for the Delta boys was Nick Sherick who placed 48th (19:06.36). Walker Sniegowski was next at 56th (19:20.86), Jarod Kurfiss 86th (19:58.50), and Ian Turi 89th (20:02.09).
Augie Tipping was 72nd (19:43.93) for the Evergreen boys, while Alex Majewski finished 83rd (19:54.18).
The Wauseon girls placed third as a team with 200 points. Evergreen’s girls were right behind them at 201 points.
Hannah Richer came in at 18th (21:35.14) for the Indians, Josie Callan 38th (22:54.66), Brooke Schuette 39th (22:54.90) and Natasha Miller 45th (23:06.84).
For Evergreen, Sara Schwan placed second (19:45.73), setting a new school record in the process. Next was Kennedy Keller who placed 17th (21:33.05), Grace Bryson 36th (22:44.32), and Katie Fritsch 73rd (24:42.13).
Both teams from Pettisville won the small school division. The Fayette boys took sixth.
Top four for the Blackbird boys were Max Leppelmeier who finished fifth (17:31.53), Logan Rufenacht seventh (17:41.82), Jaret Rychener 12th (18:31.20) and Jacob Myers 28th (19:19.84).
Brett Merillat took 14th (18:36.23) for the Eagles, Tyrese Pearson came in at 20th (18:49.64), and Eli Eberly 32nd (19:38.27).
The Pettisville girls finished with four runners in the top 10.
Elizabeth Sauder was first (19:49.89), Nichole Foor second (19:55.64), Kate Stuber eighth (21:14.21), Kelly Miller ninth (21:32.51) and Sarah Foor 16th (22:18.55). Fayette’s best finisher was Amber Gaona at 19th (22:53.52).
