In a battle of teams without a win in Northwest Ohio Athletic League competition, Swanton emerged victorious thanks to a hat trick from senior Trevor Schaller, 3-1, at home against Wauseon in boys soccer Thursday.

The younger Schaller, Zach, was on target at the 31:43 mark of the first half, but Wauseon goalkeeper Easton Delgado made a nice effort to punch the ball away.

Trevor Schaller was nearly parallel with the goal on his first score of the afternoon, putting it over the head of the Wauseon keeper from the right side to make it 1-0 with 16:34 left in the half.

He then used a pass from Wyatt Lake and Zach Schaller’s redirect to put one in 31 seconds later for a 2-0 Bulldog lead.

The Bulldogs had more chances early in the second half before the Indians would get on the board.

Swanton’s Riley Hensley blasted one at the left-corner of the net from the right side, however, he pushed it too far to the left 5:34 in. At the 22:32 mark, Trevor Schaller had a nice crossing pass to Lake but his momentum carried him past the goal and the shot went into the side of the net.

Therefore, with the game still in reach, Jameson Gray got Wauseon in the scoring column when he lofted one from nearly 40 yards away over Swanton keeper Ethan Branum to make the margin 2-1 with 21:41 remaining.

The Dogs put it away with just under 12 minutes to play on yet another goal from Trevor Schaller. He retained possession of the ball despite being surrounded by at least three Wauseon defenders, firing a shot into the back of the net to equal the final tally.

Swanton then fell at Rossford on Saturday, 5-2. They travel to Bryan today at 5 p.m. and host Otsego this Saturday at 11 a.m.

Wauseon is at Toledo Central Catholic Thursday at 6 p.m.
