Woman seriously injured in Wednesday crash


An area woman was seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash Wednesday. The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash which occurred at approximately 08:04 a.m. at Fulton Lucas Road and Sylvania Avenue in Richfield Township.

According to authorities, a 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Teresa O’Neil, 59, was eastbound on Sylvania Avenue approaching Fulton Lucas Road. A 2003 Ford F-550 driven by Richard Lair, 34, was traveling northbound on Fulton Lucas Road. The 2002 GMC Yukon failed to yield to the right of way and struck the 2003 Ford F-550. Both vehicles went off of the roadway and came to rest in a field.

O’Neil was taken by air ambulance to St. Vincent Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. Lair was taken to Flower Hospital and was treated for minor injuries and released.

The occupants of both vehicles were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.

Assisting the Ohio State Highway Patrol on scene were the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton County EMS, Metamora Fire Department, Richfield Township Fire Department and Spencer Township Fire Department.
