Evergreen Board approves dance team

Staff Report

The Evergreen Board of Education on Monday approved a dance team at the high school.

The board voted to allow Evergreen High School students to organize and participate in a dance team for the 2017 – 2018 school year. Students will be under the direction of a volunteer adult supervisor who must possess and maintain a valid pupil activity permit.

All performances of the dance team are for entertainment purposes and must be scheduled through the high school principal. At the conclusion of the 2017 – 2018 season, an evaluation will be conducted by the high school principal to help the Board of Education determine whether or not to permit an EHS Dance Team during the 2018 – 2019 school year.

All other stipulations will be according to the dance team agreement developed and signed by the high school principal and dance team supervisor. Evergreen Local School District will assume no cost or liability.

The Board also voted to allow Evergreen High School student athletes to participate in the 2017 – 2018 indoor track and field season using the Evergreen High School name. Athletes will be under the supervision of adult volunteers that have valid pupil activity permits, and all participation will cease before the beginning of the outdoor track and field season.

As with the dance team, the Evergreen Local School District will assume no cost or liability for indoor track participants and coaches/volunteers.

Also at the meeting, the Board accepted donations, including a $151,618.17 donation from the Evergreen Athletic Boosters for softball/baseball press boxes.
