Trapping the monster in the closet

ACT announces the cast for the final show of their 2014-15 season, “Monster in the Closet.” Emily (Eva Mennetti, Wauseon) has a big problem. Not only does her mom (Riah Short, Archbold) send her to bed just as she reaches the highest level of her new video game, but there’s a monster in her closet! It’s not just her imagination. Her friend Stephanie (Meggie Mello, Archbold) saw it, too.

Suffering the teasing of her brother (Milo McRobbie, Bryan) and his friends Nathan (Chris Foor, Archbold), Chris (Andrew Francis, Archbold) and Shelby (Carlos Bowers, Pettisville), Emily and Stephanie recruit some of their own friends Brain (Kate Nofziger, Archbold), Kelly (Elsie Mello, Archbold), Megan (Katelyn Stoner, Archbold), Mary (Rebekah Rosales, Archbold) and Tara (Emma Bailey, Defiance) to help capture the monster.

What they don’t know is that Murray (Autumn Owens, Bryan), the closet monster, doesn’t mean any harm — she only wants to play Emily’s new video game. She’s too scared of kids to even think about trying to frighten them. Murray’s boss, the Dream King (Will Nofziger, Archbold), has heard about her goofing off on the job, and now Murray is on probation.

Murray’s supervisor and fellow monster, Wanda (Mayzie Clark, Wauseon), is not happy with Murray either. After all, every monster knows that when a child is born, a monster is assigned to watch over her — not to play with her toys and especially not to get caught in the act.

What will happen when Emily has all her friends over for a sleepover to try to capture Murray? Even with Emily’s friend, Brain’s careful analysis and planning, the girls wind up trapping the Dream King and his secretary, Toady (Ava Genter, Pettisville), instead of Murray!

With other wonderfully entertaining characters like Sandy the Sandwoman (Allison Bickel, Ridgeville Corners) and her dream weavers (Ava Pelok, Wauseon and Reece Miller, Defiance), the solution to Emily’s monster problem brings humor, a bit of ingenuity and a little magic to this charming and delightful family show. The show is under the direction of Steve and Teresa Van Sickle (Archbold).

Monster in the Closet will be presented at Giffey Hall in Ridgeville Corners on Friday and Saturday Sept. 25 and 26 and Oct. 2 and3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets go on sales Tuesday, Sept. 8 and can be ordered by calling 419-267-5717 Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
