Landowners eligible for assist


The Fulton Soil and Water Conservation District recently received a grant to assist landowners in the North Turkeyfoot Creek, Old Bean Creek, and Brush Creek watersheds to put in conservation practices. These practices are cover crops, soil testing, filter strips, and erosion control structures.

Landowners will be provided with incentive payments for implementing each conservation practice. For cover crops, they will receive $25 per acre up to a maximum of 100 acres; for soil testing, $10 per acre up to a maximum of 100 acres; for filter strips, $50 per acre; for erosion control structures, $1750.00 per structure, and filter strips must be installed along with erosion control structures.

The grant runs from Oct. 1, 2017, through Oct. 30, 2020. Landowners interested in putting any or all of these practices in, contact either Jackie Savage at 419-337-9670 or Pete Carr at 419-337-9662.

The SWCD will conduct its 69th Annual Meeting, Election, and Dinner along with Fulton County Farm Bureau on Sept. 12, 5;30 p.m., at St. Caspar Catholic Church, 1205 N. Shoop Ave., in Wauseon.

The evening’s speaker will be Chris Winslow, Director of Ohio Sea Grant College Program.

An election for the Board of Supervisors will be conducted to fill two supervisor positions. Candidates are Christopher Ott, William Shininger, and Charles VonSeggern. Polls will be open from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
