Since 2006, the Evergreen Community Trot for a Track has raised funds to support the construction of the track facilities at Evergreen High School and recognized the contributions of the Donahue family to Evergreen Viking athletics.
The Evergreen Athletic Boosters wish to announce exciting changes to this year’s event. Most noticeably is a change in the event’s name.
“We chose to update the name to the Donahue Memorial Run to honor the memory of Dennis, Karen and Nash Donahue and the contributions of the Donahue family to the running programs at Evergreen Local Schools,” said Phil Schwan, event co-organizer. “The new name also more accurately reflects the support of all running programs and facilities at Evergreen Local Schools.”
In addition to the annual 5K run/walk and 1-mile walk, there will also be a 10K distance option for participants wishing to challenge themselves with a longer run.
“There are many distance runners within our community and across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, but we don’t see many mid-distance races,” Schwan said. “The 10K option provides a great opportunity for runners to get a tune-up race in before their fall half and full marathons.”
In response to feedback of participants, the race will be moved back to its original location in Lyons and run a similar course to the inaugural event.
The Donahue Memorial Run will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17 and will start and finish at Lyons Community Park. The 5K and 10K race will begin at 9 a.m. and the 1-mile walk will start at 9:05 a.m.
Race information and registration forms are available at donahuememorialrun.org. Forms received after Sept. 9 will not be guaranteed a t-shirt.
