An additional two classrooms at Crestwood school were approved by the Swanton Board of Education at a special meeting on last week.
The cost estimate to add the two additional classrooms and storage space to the Crestwood building is $612,931. The number includes a contingency of $16,716.
The two additional classrooms would be completed after the original project and not before the start of the school year.
The entire building project is currently $742,000 under budget, according to district treasurer Joyce Kinsman.
District officials first considered the additional two classrooms after a larger than expected number of children were registered to start kindergarten this fall. Storage space could also be an issue as students are moved from four buildings into three. Schlade added that storage is already at a premium at Crestwood.
Also at the meeting, the board approved Leigh Pancoast as assistant principal at the middle school. Also in personnel, Sharon Marvin was approved as high school football cheerleading coach. The board approved the personnel items 4-1 with Chris Nijakowski voting no.
The board also approved an agreement with Pepsi to be the exclusive suppliers of beverages for the school district. Pepsi replaces Coca-Cola.
Pepsi products will now be available in the school and at concession stands during events.
At the end of the meeting, the board of education went into executive session to conduct superintendent interviews.
A special meeting last Wednesday was almost entirely in executive session to conduct interviews. More specials meetings were planned for superintendent interviews this Wednesday and Thursday.
Swanton students start school on Sept. 7.
