Lu Luce and a small group of six other pickleball players started a Swanton community pickleball group in May after hearing about Holland’s pickleball group which has about 300 members.
The Swanton pickleball group has been growing ever since. They are now up to about 20 members.
“We just want to get it out there that we have a court and we are looking for new members,” said Lu Luce. “We’ll teach them how to play!”
Pickleball, originating in Seattle, is played with paddles and a plastic ball with holes in it. The game is played on half a tennis court and can be played as doubles or singles. Pickleball is for all ages.
There are over 2.5 million pickleball players across the nation according to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association’s 2016 report.
At the Swanton tennis courts, weather permitting, the pickleball group is meeting about three times each week to play.
Anyone interested in playing or for more information can contact the group at firstname.lastname@example.org.
