The Wauseon Board of Education heard more about the proposed board of education building at their meeting on Monday.
Superintendent Larry Brown said a site has been tentatively selected for the new building. “The proposed site of the board office is across from the Wauseon Middle School side of the 3-8 building and across the street from the athletic facility,” he said.
At the meeting, the board approved two firms to complete soil boring samples and surveys to confirm the suitability of the site. GME Testing was approved for a geotechnical investigation and Garcia Surveyors for boundary and topographical survey.
There are not yet final design plans for the building, but Brown said that the building is expected to be constructed sometime during the upcoming school year.
“(At the meeting) the architect provided some draft drawings of some of the structural design,” he said. “Once the district goes to bid with the design, we will share the actual design plans.”
Brown added that they are still in the developmental stages.
“The district plans to build a board office facility that mirrors the features, color scheme, security, and quality that is provided to our students, staff and community in our school buildings,” said Brown.
Also at the meeting, several personnel items were approved by the board, including a pair of resignations. The resignations of third grade teacher Danielle Wilson, effective July 31, and seventh grade social studies teacher Carol Tiffany, effective Aug. 11, were both accepted by the board.
Parental leave was approved for both Andrea Stevens and Sara Brown. A one-year limited certificated non-athletic supplemental contract was offered to Don Clark as the WHS stage manager/stage crew advisor. And a one-year limited classified contract was offered to Elizabeth Strick as a WHS teacher aide, pending a clean background check and education aide permit.
Athletic supplemental contracts approved for the upcoming school year included Joe Allen, head boys track; Mike Colon, head girls track; Trent Thomas, head baseball coach; Kyle Borton, assistant high school track; Michelle Winters, junior high track; Todd Wyse, assistant baseball coach; Jen Croninger, head softball coach; Stan Schmidt, boys tennis coach; and Tom Vernot, assistant high school track. Colon was also approved a volunteer cross country coach.
• The board approved an overnight trip for the high school band to Orlando, Fla. from March 11-17.
• The board authorized the superintendent to enter into an agreement Tyler Technologies, Inc. for transportation application hosting services.
• Three donations were approved, including $150 each from Barber, Kaper, Stamm & McWatters and Grieser Interiors, Inc. to the WHS speech team. Also a pole vault pole valued at $425 was donated from the Wauseon Athletic Boosters to the Wauseon Athletic Department.
