Swanton Local Schools Superintendent Jeff Schlade was approved last Monday as the new director of human resources at Lakewood City Schools. He is slated to begin at Lakewood on Aug. 1.
His resignation as superintendent at Swanton, effective July 31, was approved Wednesday by the Swanton Board of Education.
Schlade was hired as superintendent of Swanton Local Schools in the summer of 2012. Prior to Schlade, the district had two interim superintendents while searching for someone to replace Paulette Baz, who had resigned as superintendent to become principal of Park Elementary School.
A 1986 Swanton High School graduate, Schlade had served as principal of Napoleon High School before becoming Swanton’s superintendent.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Swanton, and it’s difficult to put into words the gratitude I have for the opportunity the board of education, and this community provided me back in 2012,” said Schlade. “The people of Swanton make all the difference, especially the students, and each will be missed. I can only hope folks feel better about their school district of choice, the pride of Swanton now than they did just five short years ago. Those who know me, know that I will always be a Bulldog at heart, and a proud one at that.”
The Swanton Board of Education will now be faced with the task of finding a new leader for the school district.
“I think that you are leaving the school better than what you came into, and I thank you for that,” school board president Kris Oberheim told Schlade at Wednesday’s board meeting. “We’re going to be challenged filling your shoes but you’ve left us with outstanding administrators, staff and teachers and they will help us along the way.”
