The Evergreen Board of Education adopted the 2017-18 school calendar, and approved some other items at their meeting on Monday.
The first day for Evergreen students will be Aug. 16. Christmas/New Year’s vacation will be Dec. 23 to Jan. 5
The last day for students will be May 24, 2018.
The board also approved an agreement with Ned Monroe, boys club soccer coach. This agreement is intended to improve clarity and avoid misinterpretation of Athletic or Board Policy and procedures pertaining to club and school -sanctioned sports.
The three year agreement provides an opportunity for Monroe to increase active participation in Boys Club Soccer and thus qualify for an administrative recommendation to be placed before the Board of Education for consideration as a school-sponsored sport after three years of club participation if requirements of the agreement are met. The agreement is effective from Aug. 1, 2016 through July 31, 2019.
The girls soccer team recently completed its first season of varsity play.
The board accepted personnel items including the retirement resignation of Pat Penrod.
The Mark Basilius Public Service and Athletic Scholarship Fund was established. An initial donation of $3,000 from former high school principal Mark Basilius was accepted to start the fund.
One or more scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded each year to Evergreen graduates.
