Swanton Village Administrator Jon Gochenour will be saying goodbye to the village. After more than 12 years in Swanton, Gochenour will be leaving soon for a position in Waterville.

Gochenour was to submit his resignation to council on Monday. His last day on the job is likely to be Aug. 21.

“I’ve enjoyed being in Swanton,” he said. “I take a lot of pride in things we have gotten done- millions of dollars of improvements in sewer and water systems, the Hallett Avenue overpass. We financed at least half of all that with grant money.

“I enjoyed my time here. I think I have done some good here. I wish the village the very best into the future.”

During his time in Swanton, numerous water and sewer projects were completed. That includes sewer separations and the recently completed granular activated carbon project at the water treatment plant that is designed to remove Trihalomethanes from the village’s drinking water.

The process to replace Gochenour will start quickly, but the selection will take some time.

Mayor Ann Roth and Swanton Village Council will discuss and decide upon a job description. That could be done as soon as Monday.

The village will then advertise in the local papers for a period of two weeks. Then applicants will be reviewed, called for first interviews, and then narrowed down for second interviews.

“I suspect the process will take at least four weeks, perhaps longer,” said Roth.

Gochenour will become Waterville’s new director of finance and administration, replacing Dale Knepper, who will retire Aug. 31. The city’s selection committee unanimously selected Gochenour from a field of 20 candidates.
